The Wensleydales are a rare and endangered breed, producing one of the finest and most lustrous fleeces in the world.
Izzy Lane by Isobel Davies rescues Wensleydales from slaughter house.
The Izzy Lane flock of Wensleydale Longwool sheep are loved and cared for and will live out their entire natural lives in the meadows of the Yorkshire Dales.
"MUCH OF THE WOOL USED IN THE UK NOW IS BROUGHT IN FROM AS FAR ABROAD AS NEW ZEALAND. FARMERS HERE ARE FORCED TO BURN THEIR WOOL..."
～ Ernest Ayre, Shepherd of Izzy Lane flock ～
Wensleydale longwool has no kemp, the prickly fibre found in most other wools, and can be worn against the skin with no irritation.
With Isobel Davis, Lily Cole, Katherine Poulton, and Central St Martins graduate Alice Ashby founded the knitwear brand "The North Circular" using Izzy Lane wool.
The North Circular products are not made by using big machines. Talented grandmothers, girls and a few strong men are making them. Each products has its own custom tag stating how many sheep have been rescued to date.
